Missouri DNR’s Northeast Missouri Aquifer Characterization Project covers nine counties: Clark, Scotland, Schuyler, Lewis, Knox, Adair, Marion, Shelby and Macon. DNR says electromagnetic surveys began in 2025 in Clark, Scotland and Schuyler counties and expanded into Adair, Knox and Lewis in summer 2026. The project combines test holes, passive seismic work and airborne electromagnetic surveys to identify suspected buried-channel aquifers and possible potable groundwater sources. DNR says the survey data will be used to build a 3D hydrogeological framework and final report.

Scotland-area first election at Sand Hill, 1833

SHSMO place-name research records that the first election in the locality later associated with Scotland County was held at Sand Hill in 1833 to elect a congressman and Lewis County officers. This is useful as an early civic-participation record.
